Garbo House is a yoga studio with a sea view in the heart of Penzance. In 2020, it was relaunched as a space dedicated to women’s wellbeing, offering a range of classes and workshops to empower and inspire women.
It was my first pregnancy in 1992 that brought me to yoga or yoga to me.
The feelings of softness, power, connectedness and wisdom echoed the feelings that pregnancy gave me.
Yoga guided me through a beautiful healthy pregnancy and an inspiring birth. Continued practice also helped me, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually through the joys and challenges of motherhood.
In 1999, I trained as a Holistic Childbirth Educator and then in 2003 I completed a two year yoga teacher training course with Duncan Hulin and the Devon School of Yoga. I then started working to bring yoga to other pregnant women and these classes are still running in Penzance and I am now working with women through their second and third pregnancies.
My own journey evolved through Duncan’s wonderful teaching, who always encouraged me to teach from the heart. I also studied Iyengar, Ashtanga, Vini Yoga, Anusara and Scaravalli with many inspiring teachers from around the world. For me the study of yoga is a lifetime pursuit and I am always learning new benefits, but in essence it is very simple, a regular yoga practice makes you happy, healthy and connected.
Through my experience and work around pregnancy and birth i’ve become passionate about all aspects of women’s health.
I founded Garbo House as a space dedicated to Women’s Wellbeing so that all the profound events in a women’s life, from puberty through to menopause can be understood and honoured rather than ignored, misunderstood or treated like illnesses.
